Electric car subsidies in the EU: What funding is available?

Introduction

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular in Poland, gaining the attention of both entrepreneurs and private individuals. Government subsidy programs support this development, being part of the green transformation promoted by the European Union. What financial resources are available to potential buyers? Let's take a closer look at this issue.

Germany at the top of electromobility

Germany, as a leader in the development of electromobility, has achieved a significant milestone - one million electric vehicles on its roads, which is confirmed by a report by the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW). This is the result of effective government subsidies, which have resulted in a doubling of the number of electric cars sold since 2020, reaching 328,000 cars in 2021.

Dynamics of subsidies in Germany

Although subsidies are currently decreasing, forecasts indicate that attractive incentives will remain attractive. In 2023, the subsidies amounted to EUR 4,500 for a vehicle up to EUR 40,000, and for more expensive models - EUR 3,000. Germany is now focusing exclusively on fully electric vehicles, both new and used. The subsidy program is valid until funds in the amount of EUR 3.4 billion are exhausted, which is also a signal of commitment to long-term support for electromobility.

The Netherlands: One million euros in funding

The Netherlands is also accelerating the development of electromobility, allocating almost one million euros to subsidize the purchase of electric cars in a given year. Although the amount of support for an individual vehicle remains unchanged, the program is trying to cover a larger number of beneficiaries.

Program conditions in the Netherlands

The subsidies were EUR 2,950 for new and EUR 2,000 for used vehicles. To benefit from the subsidy, the vehicle had to have a range of at least 120 km and the price was between PLN 12,000 and PLN 45,000. euro. The purchase had to be completed in 2023, and the buyer had to have a registered office in the Netherlands.

Polish program "My Electrician"

Poland, although with fewer users of electric vehicles, is trying to catch up with the trends of its neighbors. The "My Electrician" program offers discounts on the purchase of new zero-emission vehicles, but focuses only on fully electric cars, excluding hybrids.

Funding for citizens and entrepreneurs

For individual buyers, the additional payment may amount to PLN 18,750, with vehicle price limits up to PLN 225,000. Holders of the Large Family Card can count on an additional PLN 27,000, and there is no limit on the price of the car. Entrepreneurs also have access to the program, with the possibility of receiving subsidies for purchases, leasing and long-term rentals.
